Lithium battery in the 08 Prius?

Toyota has to warrenty the batteries and hybrid part for 10 years 150,000 miles. They decided to do more testing before junmping to lithium.
In the mean time they just doubled the NiMH pack that has done so well and add a plug and charger. If you plug in you can get 100 + mpg on 30-50 mile trips, if not only 50 mpg. Not bad for a start.
They are taking it 1 step at a time. They also are working on a smaller hybrid about the Yaris size and other projects. In Japan they are doing more E-com small city electric cars. I can't wait for the later 08 prius and to see what they decided on for 2009.

Toyota is set to release the new 3rd generation prius in early 2009. It will get 30% better mpg with an improved NiMH battery. A year or so later they will start releasing the lithium battery models.
It's great how they make each new model better than the last. Their goal is to be 20-40% better and they are right on target.
Honda and others are trying to keep up but so far Toyota really has the leed. Their vehicle is a full hybrid meaning it can run on electric alone. The plug-in option in 2010 will increase that. They also have the lean clean engine when it does run and a braking mode to save brakes on long downhill drives.

I had heard that the 08 Prius was going to have a lithium batters. I am in the process of trading in my Acura, (20 MPG city) for an 08 Prius. From the research I have done the 08 does not have the lithium battery. Have I missed something or is there a future date for release?
Thanks!
