Hybrids on the Rise in LA

All,

We all know that Los Angeles is usually the place where trends begin and then move across the rest of the country. I live in Los Angeles and have a fairly short commute between work and home (8 miles which is short for LA). I've been keeping a non-scientific tally in the number of Toyota Prius cars that I'm seeing during my commute and have noticed that the numbers have increased dramatically. Where I used to see 3-5 Prius vehicles I'm now seeing from 7-10 on average for the duration of my commute. In my mind this is a quantum jump. It's absolutely amazing how many vehicles Toyota has been producing to meet demand - they know a winner when they see one.

Re: Hybrids on the Rise in LA

a short 8 mile commute would be even greener if you rode a bicycle. Even a great hybrid like the Prius has to warm up and makes the most pollution on short trips. When they start producing the plug-in hybrids they could run in all electric mode most of the way but a bicycle would be good for your health, reduce traffic and parking congestion and use virtually no energy of oil or electricity, maybe an extra bagle and glass of juice.
